Project mission
A groundbreaking collaboration between Coodu Trust and Renault Nissan India Private Limited to create a sustainable waste management system for the industrial township at Padappai, Kanchipuram District — a model project demonstrating how industrial-residential integration can achieve exceptional waste management outcomes while building a cleaner, greener community.
Launched to serve 3,000+ households in the Padappai SIPCOT area, the initiative pairs Renault Nissan India Private Limited — providing funding, infrastructure support and technical collaboration — with Coodu Trust as the implementing organisation. A three-bin segregation system at every household — green for wet waste, blue for dry recyclables, red for hazardous waste — combined with door-to-door education has achieved an industry-leading 70%+ source segregation efficiency, among the highest residential rates in Tamil Nadu.
At the heart of the system is an on-site ECO-MAC composting plant processing 2 tons/day of organic waste — 730 tons/year converted into agricultural-grade compost that is returned to local farmers, closing the nutrient cycle. Dry waste is sorted and channelled to authorized recyclers, monthly reports go to Renault Nissan and municipal authorities, and Coodu Trust offers consultancy services to replicate the model in other locations.
